Since some of my other threads generally devolved in to a debate about existing laws and gun crime statistics, I'll try to avoid starting an argument about your point of view in this thread. With election day in the U.S right around the corner, I'd like to hear more about some of your views on gun control. |

I voted for there needs to be less control/restrictions, mainly because not every state is the same and some are more stricter. What I'm fine with is background checks, but we shouldn't be revoked of any kind of rights of owning guns. |

Full Disclosure: I am Canadian and therefore have a different perspective on this subject than an American. Keep this in mind regarding the following post(s) I make in this thread. By and by, I am fine wirh the majority of gun laws on record. I'd just want more restriction/control on mordern military-style weapons (AR-15 and other similar rifles and some semiauto shotguns) and their accessories. Bolt action rifles, pump action shotguns and handguns and their accessories are no issue to me. |

So what's your opinion on AR pistols then? They're classified as pistols/handguns by all U.S law enforcement and in U.S legislation, but they are chambered for the same cartridge an AR-15 is and share the same accessories and magazines.

It's legally classified as a pistol in the U.S, yes. The thing protruding from the back isn't a stock, it's actually the buffer tube so that the gun can function. There's also AKMs that are classified as pistols, same boat as AR pistols.

If they legally count as pistols, I have no issues on them specifically but you can understand my reticence for giving that same leeway to the interchangable gear right? I have no problems with the ammunition size, after all the SKS rounds are civilian grade these days. But I do have some.....reluctance to allowing the pistol variants unrestricted access to the rifle attachments and magazines when I ask the rifles themselves have the restrictions. |

My opinion is that it's a right for all U.S citizens, including criminals and the mentally ill. No restrictions on anything, if you can afford to own it, you should be able to own it. No registration on anything either. No magazine capacity limits. There's no clause in the 2nd Amendment that limits any of that and there's been no ratification of an amendment amending the 2nd Amendment. Until then, all laws and regulations regarding firearms are illegal and unconstitutional. Unfortunately I have to follow the infringing laws or I'll see myself in the big house.
If it clarifies the question, AR pistols and AKM pistols are the exact same thing as their rifle counterparts, the only real difference is the lack of stock on them. They aren't exactly variants per se, they are the same firearms, just missing a stock. Many have their barrels installed or shortened down to ~10" because it'd be even harder than they already are to use effectively. Some extra info on it, if you wanted to put a stock on the AR/AKM pistol and turn it in to a SBR/AOW, that's illegal under normal circumstance, but if you fill out the proper paperwork, submit your application, pay $200, register the specific firearm and wait a minimum 6 months to hear if you've been given the go ahead to do so, you can put a stock on it and it then becomes a short barreled rifle. It's technically the same with pistols like Glocks, but I've never heard of anyone putting a rifle stock on a Glock pistol. Edited by Helvius Pertinax Augustus, Aug 18 2016, 04:43 PM.

I just realized that post made it seem like I was trying to debate about existing laws. That wasn't my intention. I was attempting to explain why those are considered pistols, and not rifles, and then the process for converting them (legally) in to short barreled rifles. |

Let me have my guns. Let me buy my guns. Let me buy my ammo. Keep the psychos away. Don't punish the responsible gun nuts for the ones that shouldn't have had a gun in the first place. |
